Tips and Tricks for getting the best Cape Fear area rental home experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Cape Fear area area. To get the best value, shift your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Cape Fear area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain coupons for local tours and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking a perfectrental:

  • Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Best Location on the Island has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is right for your trip.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a particular Cape Fear area attraction you crave, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
