How to find the best rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your rental home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have deals for local tours and attractions.
Make a plan and pick the bestrental:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Dockside at The Cove - Downtown Wilmington in Port City Marina has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before booking your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a particular Cape Fear area attraction you love, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- To make sure no damages are linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas upon check in. message the host right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of issues.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
