How to book the best vacation property experience:
Money saving strategies:
- In the Cape Fear area area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- To find the best rental home within your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have discounts for local tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose a group leader, select your dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Newly updated condo! Pool, hot tub, golf, beach. Family friendly! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If not, call the host before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your group.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many concerns.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
