Getting the best Sunset Beach vacation home experience:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • In the Cape Fear area area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Book your rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides have deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Advice for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • During arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
