Tips and Tricks for getting the best Oak Island vacation property experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • In the Cape Fear area area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best value, try changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to choose the perfect vacation home in the Cape Fear area area:

  • Choose your vacation dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Spectacular Dog Friendly 2nd Row New Home with Amazing Ocean Views, Large Pool and Elevator has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before booking the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a certain Cape Fear area destination you simply love, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
  • During check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
