Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Oak Island. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose your vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Oceanview From Top Deck! Sleeps 12- Short 3 min Walk To Beach Entry has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before booking your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your visit, record any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the property manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a excellent stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
