Add some tranquility and tranquility to your trip...handsomely furnished on the inside, with an getaway of a backyard, this is a home you'll want to visit again and again.
With your own saltwater pool & hot tub, in a private backyard heaven...you may not ever want to leave the property. But we don't recommend it. OKI is a amazing place to visit.
Minutes away from the beach, steps away from the Intracoastal Waterway, and one street over from the spectacular beach walkway, this home will not disappoint.
The space
A well thought out and inviting home awaits you.
The open floor plan makes the most of the space, and the vaulted ceilings let in an enormous amount of natural light.
There are rocking chairs on the front porch, and seating out in the screened in back deck...the ideal spot to sip your morning brew, listening to the waterfall splash into the pool.
Both doors to the home have screens to let in the salty breeze in warmer weather, and there is a gas fireplace to snuggle up to in the colder months.
The living room has two reclining couches and two chairs, along with a smallish library of coastal books for young and old.
The Master Bedroom is very huge and has ample storage, from dressers to a nice walk in closet. The bed is king sized and oh so comfortable. Attached, is a master bath with a tub/shower combo and a linen closet.
On the other side of the living room is a hallway leading to the two other bedrooms.
The guest room features a queen bed with another nice bed, blackout shades, and plenty of storage.
The third bedroom has been transformed in to a bunk home room, housing 5 twin beds (also very comfortable beds...an adult would appreciate to sleeping on). In the bunk room, there are games and toys, as well as a wii and xbox with a few games (ideal for rainy days).
Between the two rooms are a linen closet and a full bath in the hallway.
With the dining table and the bar, there is plenty of seating for everybody in the home.
The kitchen is completely outfitted. In the cabinets, you'll find a waffle maker, panini press, crock pot, blender, food processor, cutting boards, sheet pans, stainless steel pots and pans, strainers...more than you could hope for. There is plenty of empty cabinets for your things as well. Between the refrigerator and the double oven is an ice maker (you can't have too much ice while visiting at the beach). The sink has a view of the backyard and the pool. In the kitchen is the pantry, where there is more storage for you as well as the full sized washer and dryer.
Outside on the back deck is the cargo lift. This is a game changer, and can take the daunting task of moving all your things upstairs and simplify it tremendously. (Note. The lift is for cargo only. Not a people elevator. I repeat, not a people elevator.) Walking out of the screened in porch, you'll find the open deck with outdoor dining covered by a pergola.
Down the stairs, under the deck, is the hot tub. What a treat!
The saltwater pool and waterfall definitely make the backyard.
Pictures simply don't do it justice. Peaceful and breath-taking. There have been trips that we don't even make it to the beach because we don't want to leave. In the far corner is a shed that we are transforming into a pool home. Inside, you'll find pool toys, floats, and another full refrigerator...ideal for storing beverages and snacks you'll want by the pool.
Close to the gate, near the home is the additional sizable outdoor shower.
Inside the shower is a storage bench that has shovels, toys, body boards and skim boards for the beach.
Going out of the fenced in backyard, and under the home is where the last bathroom is. This half bath is nice to have so close to the pool.
Around the corner from the bathroom is the storage area. Inside is where you will find the beach chairs, umbrellas, and tents to use at the beach. You're welcome to any of them. You'll also find the Kayaks and SUP.
This home has been such a joy to our family, and we are thrilled to share this sweet space with you.
Guest access
The home rests on stilts, which gives ample parking underneath, as well as additional parking in the driveway.
Conveniently located in the middle of the island, our home is a fast drive to grocery stores, parks, eateries, and most anything else you may need.
We are one street over from the Scenic Beach Walkway and Kayak Launch.
This is something that you cannot miss. Wooden bridges that stretch over the canals, connected by a well trodden trail through an island...taking you to 3rd row homes from the beach. The vistas are fantastic. Clocking in at a 10-15 min. walk, it's such a sweet way to meander to the beach.
Now, if you're planning a day at the shore and need to bring all the things, the home is a 5 min. golf cart ride or a 2 min. car ride to the beach.
Speaking of the kayak launch, in the storage area under the home are 2 adult kayaks, 2 kid kayaks, as well as a SUP/kayak hybrid for you to use if you'd like. If you need more kayaks, they are available to rent at the Rec. Center on 31st.
The Intracoastal Waterway is also a few homes away in the other direction, and the public boat launch is a quick drive away.
There is a 6 passenger golf cart available to rent for an additional fee, if interested. This is really fun way to discover the island and all it has to offer. It's our families preferred mode of transportation while on the island.
Other things to note
Our family has fallen head over heels for Oak Island, and are excited to share it with you. Regardless of the season, there's something to look forward to. From Farmers Markets to Public Concerts and festivals, ease yourself into modest town rhythms that are life-giving. We recommend the town website to help navigate all that's available in the time you'll be there.
On the island, you'll find multiple parks (one has a splash pad!), two piers, over 100 complimentary public beach accesses, a lighthouse, darling eateries, thrift stores, and a Nature Center.
Southport is a quick drive over the old bridge, and is full of stores, more eateries, and museums. It's a cozy little town whose beauty has been featured in many movies and shows.
From Southport, you can also catch a ferry over to either Bald Head Island or to Carolina Beach.
On the island or off...the possibilities for adventure are countless.
