AVAILABILITY - Summer/August 10-17 available (as of 4/12/2024) - full week only. Several weekends in May also open - 3 nighttime minimum.

HOME DETAILS: Updates never end! Spring 2024 - Intelligent TV now above the mantle in main room, new and roomy refrigerator, replaced main room furnishings, lights, tables, and area rug. Screened porch facelift in progress and scheduled to be done by summer units. AND the canal has been dredged! We try to keep our photos current ... just know there may be slight differences between the Vacation Rental By Owner photos and the actual home. The home is ALWAYS better than the photos!

RENTAL PROCESS: You rent directly from the Owners. (Many Vacation Rental By Owner homes are managed by commercial property managers.)

SUMMER (June, July, August) - WEEKLY units ONLY, Saturday to Saturday, NO exceptions. We are not a hotel. Please allow AT LEAST a 5-day advance notice to complete paperwork, collect payment, and for us to prepare the home for your stay.

PAYMENT PROCESS: The ONLY payment method is credit card via Vacation Rental By Owner's secure payment process. We do not receive or store your credit card information. Vacation Rental By Owner holds ALL funds from the owners until your vacation actually begins. Only the rental fee and cleaning/internet costs are distributed to the owners. Vacation Rental By Owner collects/pays taxes and assesses an administration fee.

AVAILABLE DATES: If your desired dates are not open on the Vacation Rental By Owner calendar, they are already reserved by another guest. We will not negotiate switching vacation dates with another confirmed rental.

HOW TO BOOK: To secure a vacation reservation, submit a Vacation Rental By Owner online inquiry. From such, we will confirm pricing and share the rental agreement. We WILL NOT send you a payment request. Guests must initiate booking via Vacation Rental By Owner. No vacation is guaranteed until BOTH a signed rental agreement AND deposit payment are received – prices and availability are subject to change until your paperwork is processed. If your credit card is declined, you have a short window of time with Vacation Rental By Owner to make payment, otherwise the vacation period becomes open for others to book. Rental agreement can be scanned/emailed or sent via snail mail directly to the owners (contact details on the agreement). Your rental rate is determined at time of booking - rates cannot be adjusted (up or down) post-booking. Multi-week bookings are welcome in the summer; however, there is not a discount to the rental rate.

BOATING: If you bring a boat or jet ski(s), there is a boat ramp on the mainland side of the Sunset Beach bridge. Recent dredging (2024) in Tubbs Inlet, waterways parallel to Canal Street, and all feeder canals - including ours - have improved water access. We have a 17-foot skiff that clears during medium/high tide, but bigger watercraft may be more challenged. There are no rental refunds in the event your boat does not clear properly or if there is unforeseen damage to our dock preventing its use.

GENERAL INFO: Dreaming of a peaceful hideaway to the North Carolina coast? We have owned this home since 2008 (and a prior home on the island since 2004). We are always doing something to keep the property refreshed and fresh. This is our home away from home and we want you to appreciate Sunset Beach just like our family. The property is decent sized for a modest family hideaway (with grandparents, cousins, or friends).

The home has an open floor plan on the main level and is elegantly furnished. The kitchen is well-equipped. There are games and activities galore. Under the home you will find additional space to relax. Take the well-adored canoe or one of the two kayaks down the canal to the Intracoastal waterway. The screened porch provides a great venue for an afternoon board game or dining al fresco. Savor ocean, canal, and intracoastal vistas from the decks and many windows. Sun decks on the main and upper levels provide alternative spots to the beach. We expanded the original front deck and have solid wood Adirondack chairs on all three levels. Public beach access is ~300 feet from the home. Guests have access to our phenomenal 'beach buggy' for simple transport of beach essentials.

We welcome units from families and responsible adults over the age of 25. The home sleeps a max. of 8 people (adults and any kids traveling with you). Review the floorplan carefully to ensure the bedroom and linens arrangements work for your group. Absolutely NO FAMILY PETS and NO smoking in this home or anywhere on the property. Our home backs up to water and has many decks and interior open railings. Keep this in mind if you are visiting with younger kids.

ABOUT SUNSET BEACH: Sunset Beach is the Southern-most barrier island on the North Carolina coast. It is a short drive to Calabash ('Seafood Capital of the South') and ~20-min. drive to North Myrtle Beach. Sunset Beach is one of North Carolina’s most calming beaches with 200+ feet of natural dunes before the first row of homes. The ambiance is cozy and family-aligned, even during peak season. One of the Nation’s most handsome wildlife preserves – Bird Island - is a nice walk (2.5 miles from the home) down beach. Visit the Kindred Spirit mailbox - an inspiration for Nicholas Sparks's novel "Every Breath." Observe deer, wild goats, sea turtles, and other sea life as well as savor miles of undeveloped dunes and marsh areas.

If you are a golfer, you don't have to travel far to enjoy dozens of courses. We are close to many local conference centers (Sea Trail is one), making our home a nice alternative to hotel lodging.

Our top Sunset Beach rental home booking tips and tricks:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in the Cape Fear area area. Booking your Cape Fear area vacation home in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Island home On Canal, Near Beach - Some May dates + Aug 10-17, 2024 open. has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
  • Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many problems.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
