Located in Carolina Heights, the Magnolia House is in an elegant location- just a 15 min. walk to the bustling riverfront, a 20 min. drive to the beach!. All linen, towels, kitchen items (service for 12) are supplied so you just need to pack your suitcase and make yourself at home!
The Magnolia House is a gathering place for families celebrating milestones, or visiting together and seeking peaceful refuge after a day of sightseeing. This pretty historic property is a delight! Every room is bathed in sunlight with giant windows, many facing the enormous garden in the backyard with its old magnolia tree, and pathway leading down three steps to a lower formal garden, Camelia trees and Azaleas.
The home, constructed in 1921, is filled with original details including 10-foot ceilings, a wide brick path, the old call buttons used in the 1920's. There are 3 fireplaces (one functional) with sizable decorative mantels. The home has been supplied in the Wilmington Historic Foundation's Historic Home Tour and has also been used as a location for multiple TV series and commercials..
Our guests tell us that they appreciate the chef’s kitchen with its stainless steel countertops and three sinks. Cooking for a huge group is a enjoyment in this well equipped and cavernous kitchen. There is seating for 6 around the kitchen island for informal meals. The formal dining room seats 10-12 people comfortably for formal meals and holiday dinners.
The den is a comfortable getaway with a sizable sectional, constructed-in bookshelves with books to read and a 42-inch flat screen HDTV which accepts you to wirelessly stream movies and TV shows and surf the Web. There is also game table seating six that opens for an impromptu poker nighttime! The shelves are outfitted with puzzles and all the best board games for a fun evening in with the family. There is an XBOX to keep the kids (and maybe even a few adults) entertained with wireless remote controls and numerous games. Bring your games along with you if you have a favorite!
The den also has a doggy door out to the fenced yard.
There is also a formal living room with ample seating that is ideal for entertaining guests or simply appreciating a drink by the fireplace on a winter nighttime.
There are 5 huge bedrooms (all located upstairs) with the following configurations:
Bedroom 1: Master bedroom: One King sized bed (with flat screen tv)
Bedroom 2: One Queen sized bed (with flat screen tv)
Bedroom 3: Second Master Bedroom-One King sized bed (with flat screen tv)
Bedroom 4 : One Full sized bed
Bedroom 5: Two twin sized beds and one full sized bed -OR can be configured as ONE full sized bed and ONE King sized bed--(This room connects to the master bedroom with solid wood french doors, so if you would like the doors open or closed, you have a choice. When the doors are closed, there is complete privacy, and the bedrooms are completely separate. if left open, the two rooms are connected and ideal for parents with very young kids or infants.)
There is also a queen sized sleeper couch in the living room downstairs, which can be set up for guests who cannot walk up the stairs with ease.
There are three full bathrooms with deep, upsized tubs located upstairs, and there is a half bath (no tub or shower) downstairs.
*Please note that all full bathrooms are located upstairs. There is a half bathroom (no bathtub) located downstairs near the sleeper couch. The home is not handicap accessible.
The bathrooms have original fixtures and floor tiles to preserve the beauty and integrity of this historic home. This is not new construction. There may be a creaky floorboard, a dripping faucet here and there, but it is all original to this home constructed in 1921.
Animals will be considered on an individual basis, so please inquire before booking the home. We are generally a pet-friendly home! There is even a pet door to the fenced backyard. If your pet is authorized, you must sign a pet agreement. Your pet MUST BE on flea control to be considered. Family Pets are not allowed on furnishings, including beds.
Appreciate the calming backyard and watch the kids play on the swing set (there is an infant seat, too) and slide while you grille outdoors on the gas grille.

Booking the best Cape Fear area vacation rental experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies supply Cape Fear area area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and choose your prefectrental home:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Gorgeous, HUGE 5 bedroms, 3.5 bath, 4000 Sq ft Sunlit Beauty, Downtown has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible online. If not, reach out to the property owner before you book the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
