Detour Deli & Café might not be very big, but it makes up for its small stature with a deli menu that’s full of gigantic global flavors. Found within a miniature brick building on the outskirts of Downtown Wilmington, this arty café has just enough room for a row of small tables and counter seating, (as well as a nice outdoor patio that’s inviting in the warm weather months), but patrons will keep coming back despite the limited space for the world of flavors.
The sandwich menu is scrawled on the menu board above the counter, and newcomers will be surprised to find a lot of unusual options that are side by side with the traditional American classics. Patrons can order the basics, like a ham, turkey or Italian hoagie, but can also treat themselves to a unique creation on a French baguette, a Torta, or even a Bahn Mi. (In fact, there are a number of torta and Bahn Mi varieties that are piled high with different proteins and veggies.) Always filling in the small café or on the go, the relatively new Detour Deli & Café is already gaining a big following among the hungry local and sandwich loving crowd.
