Tips to get the very best Cape Fear area rental experience:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Cape Fear area vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Cape Fear area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select vacation dates and budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Charming Pet Friendly Home Steps To Oak Island Beach!! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what bed configuration is best for your group.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.
  • If there's a certain Cape Fear area attraction you crave, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
