How to book the best vacation property experience:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Cape Fear area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Modern Beachy Oasis Cottage ! Just steps to the Ocean! has 6 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property manager before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to inspire future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
