Oak Island rental property booking tips and tricks:
Getting the best rental value:
- The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Choosing the perfect vacation rental in the Cape Fear area area:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Pier Pleasure: Executive Style Home with Ocean and Intracoastal Views, Dock, Fis has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or might be applied to your contract.
- If there's a certain Cape Fear area attraction you love, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Advice for a terrific stay:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
