Our top Cape Fear area vacation rental booking tips:

When to book & When to go:

  • Booking in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select your dates and maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Heart of Downtown- pet-friendly ILM retreat! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you book your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To make certain that no damages are linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the property manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
