Rental home booking tips:

When to reserve a Cape Fear area rental home & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To book the largest vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Begin by selecting trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Golf Cart Included! In-law Suite, Screened In Porch, Only blocks from the Ocean has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property management company before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what configuration is right for your family.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
  • Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

More considerations:

  • We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. Contact the host right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
