Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Oak Island vacation home experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summer time is high season in Oak Island. To find the largest vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking the rightrental home:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Completely renovated, spacious contemporary house, short walk to the beach! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your group.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or may be applied to your invoice.
- If there's an individual Cape Fear area beach you long to visit, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
More tips for your stay:
- Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
