Tips to get the best rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Summertime is high season in the Cape Fear area area. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Cape Fear area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • First and foremost, have your family select a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Coastal Getaway: Pet-Friendly, Steps to the Beach has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what is best for your vacation family.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs applied to your invoice.
  • Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

Tips for a great stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
