Finding the best rental home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in Oak Island. To book the best vacation home within your budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select dates and budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. 6BR\/5BA Home - 2nd Row,Ocean Views,Events,Pool,Elevator, Sleeps 18 has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your family require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
