Welcome to the Cobblers Corner a homage to the original owner who ran a successful shoe shop right here. This one-of-a-kind spot is located in a attractively restored historic home constructed in 1887.

Rather you like the excitement and convenience of city living or a peaceful evening to yourself this apartment is ideal for both. Located on a cozy street steps away from the acclaimed Front Street and breathtaking riverfront.

Historic 1887 Mercer-Evans Tusch home with plaque, registered through the Wilmington Historical Society and on the right-hand side of the wraparound porch you will find your temporary home.

WOW; 100+ year old wood floors that have been painstakingly refurbished are the foundation for this unbelievably designed modest space.

- Brand-new living room and dining area with a subtle mid-century vibe and a pop of color from the new decor.

- The completely outfitted kitchenette with glassware, plates/bowls, pots & pans, cookie sheets, toaster, Keurig, and more.

- New paintings, throw pillows, blankets, vases, and decor makes the place pop!

- Green tea memory foam bed with Egyptian cotton sheets will allow you to sleep as well as ever.

- Restored 1960's real cedar dresser.

- Reading nook with a enormous window overlooking the garden.

- Warning: Extremely soft Turkish cotton towels, washcloths, and hand towels are supplied! Be careful, you may want to throw your old towels away!

- This is a compact space at roughly 520 sq. ft., however, it's packed with the amenities you need.

- 2 blocks from the river and river walk.
- 2 blocks from Market Street.
- Minutes to the hospital.
- Minutes to shopping, dining, handsome sunsets, carriage rides, and more.
- This downtown Wilmington, NC historic apartment is a ideal place to stay when you're in town.

- It's surprisingly peaceful for being so close to town, but occasionally you will hear an ambulance or fire truck, a loud car, or a garbage truck, but nothing unusual.

Guest access
The space is on the side of the home, separate from the home with no access to the main home. It's secure and just for you. That said, if you need us, we're literally right next door.

Other things to note
We live in the main home and will be available to meet you, provide suggestions, and help if an issue does arise.

Airplanes/ helicopters pass over the downtown area during the day. It can be noisy but is not typically loud. The entire downtown area experiences this, we just want our guests to know ahead of time. We live in the main home so you may hear us or the doggos on occasion.

Note: This home is 136 years old, and although many aspects have been refreshed and refurbished... it is 136 years old. If an issue arises or you have questions, we live here and are here to help.

About the Area

Located on a river, this apartment is in Wilmington Historic District, a neighborhood in Wilmington. Tricks and tips to get the optimal Cape Fear area rental experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Summer is high season in the Cape Fear area area. To book the best vacation home within your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Cape Fear area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

How to pick the perfect vacation home in the Cape Fear area area:

  • Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. 136 Year Old Historic Wilmington Apartment, 2 Blocks to Riverfront, Free Parking has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
  • If there's a particular Cape Fear area beach you love, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More tips for your visit:

  • Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
  • Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
