Strategies to get the perfect vacation property experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • To book the largest rental for your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Cape Fear area attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • In the Cape Fear area area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Cape Fear area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning and choosing a perfectvacation home:

  • Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Modern 1BR apartment in the heart of historic downtown Wilmington, NC has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area rentals search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. text the host right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
