How to find the best Cape Fear area vacation property experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes.
  • The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Cape Fear area area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

  • Choose a group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Happier Than a Byrd with a French Fry: West Beach Home with Ocean Views and Easy has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is best for your group.
  • Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make sure no damages are linked to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the host right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective.
