The Bald Head Island Club and Shoals Club operate independently from BHI Vacations, and guest memberships must be purchased directly through each club. Availability varies by home listing, and during the summer season, memberships may sell out quickly. To avoid disappointment, we strongly recommend securing your club membership as early as possible.

Additionally, the Bald Head Island ferry system is independently operated and not affiliated with BHI Vacations. To ensure a smooth arrival and departure, we encourage guests to book ferry and tram reservations well in advance.

Cape Fear Station, a neighborhood in Bald Head Island, is home to this vacation home. The Clubs at St. James and Southport Marina are worth checking out if an activity is on the agenda, while those looking for area attractions can visit North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport and North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. Find your perfect rental:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To book the best vacation home for your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Cape Fear area restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers.   • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what bed configuration is right for your vacation.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or may be applied to your agreement.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many problems.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
