Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer is high season in the Cape Fear area area. To get the best value, shift your family's Cape Fear area trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, management companies supply Cape Fear area area visitors guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing and booking the bestrental:

  • Select your vacation week and spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. CA Style Sanctuary 4BR3BA house with Heated Saltwater Pool and Hot Tub has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what is right for your family.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
