Strategies to get the perfect rental experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a Cape Fear area rental home:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Oak Island. Reserve your vacation in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies supply Cape Fear area area travel guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Don't Worry Beach Happy: Ocean View, Swimming Pool has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before you book the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your family.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make certain damages are not linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. text the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
