Booking the best rental home experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Summer time is high season in the Cape Fear area area. Book your rental property in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • First, have your family agree to trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Cozy three bedroom nestled in Keepers Landing overlooking maritime forest! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If not, call the property management company before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what is best for your trip.
  • Does your family require particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.

Advice for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Call the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
