Tips and Tricks to get the best Wilmington rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Cape Fear area area. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Cape Fear area area visitor guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Make a plan and choose the rightrental:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Newly remodeled cottage near downtown with porch & enclosed yard - dogs ok has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

During your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to propel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
