Tricks and tips to get the perfect Cape Fear area rental home experience:

Get the best rental value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best value, shift your family's Cape Fear area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Choose your vacation dates and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Waterfront duplex w\/ dock, shared pool, fast WiFi & central AC has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If they are not listed, email the host before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is suitable for your family.
  • Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the host right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a excellent stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
