Vacation rental tips and tricks:

Finding your best deal:

  • Book your vacation in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Some owners offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose your dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Updated beach cottage, ocean views. Tons of Outdoor Space! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property management company before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your group.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make certain that no damages are linked to your stay, record any problem areas during arrival. Call the host immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
