The USS North Carolina Battleship that’s docked along the edge of downtown Wilmington is remarkable in more ways than one, and during this special presentation, visitors will be able to learn about all the important markers this impressive vessel signifies. The Showboat: Battleship Systems and Design event is a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes of this historic vessel, and learn how it became a model for all the battleships that followed.
The Showboat: Battleship Systems and Design presentation is led by Lt. Col. Ken Rittenmeyer (USAF Ret), who will explain the battleship in detail before guiding attendees on a complete exploration of the various systems within the ship, such as the armor, fuel, propulsion, electrical and more. Along the way, attendees will learn about how the USS Battleship North Carolina paved the way for all the battleships that came after, thanks to its engineering that made it stronger and faster than any other vessel of its kind on the water. The event is best suited for ages 18 and up, and is a historical adventure that will thrill history buffs of all varieties.
