Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Many management companies supply Cape Fear area area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Incredible Water Views on Carolina Beach - The Happy House has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • If there's an individual Cape Fear area beach you crave, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
