Getting the best vacation rental experience:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the best value, consider shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies supply Cape Fear area area visitors guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Filter your search:

  • First, have your family select vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Brand new modern beach home with elevator, pool, marsh view, 2 min walk to beach has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

More considerations:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • To make sure that no damages are linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
