Special Olympics Polar Plunge

Website
Wednesday, December 31st
Kure Beach

Athletes of all abilities will want to join in this event which provides a chilly way to celebrate the winter season while supporting a very worthy and local cause. The annual Polar Plunge, 5K Run-N-Plunge, or one-mile fun walk is a great way to experience the stunning Kure Beach shoreline in the off-season months while having a chilly but fun time embracing an inner superhero.

You can choose your own adventure at this event, and opt for the Polar Plunge, the 5K Run-N-Plunge, or the one-mile fun walk for all abilities, which features a flat course that is stroller, wheelchair, and dog friendly. Brave plungers who take a dip in the chilly Atlantic Ocean will be treated to a crowd of spectators cheering them on, and folks can even plunge with their four-legged friends, (if they are also brave enough for a February dip.) No matter which way you choose to participate, proceeds from the event go to benefit the Special Olympics New Hanover County (NHC) which makes it a great event for supporting the local community while enjoying a little action along the shoreline. Featuring music, vendors, games, and food trucks, this event is a family-friendly celebration that is sure to leave everyone chilly but smiling.
