History, local heritage, and a little holiday spirit are all merrily combined at this annual event that makes a visit to one of Southport’s favorite local landmarks even brighter. The Costumed Holiday History Tour is a celebrated part of the Southport Winterfest Festival, and is a unique opportunity to discover the North Carolina Maritime Museum in a new and glittering holiday light.
During the early December event, visitors to the NC Maritime Museum in the heart of Southport will be treated to a special tour of the facilities and exhibits, led by an appropriately costumed interpreter who will explain all the stories behind the relics. In addition to the traditional displays, visitors on the tour will also learn about the holidays in the region, such as Colonial and Victorian holiday traditions, and the historic storm that almost stole Christmas. The tour is free and open to the public, and is a great way for history buffs of all ages to garner a little insight into the heritage of the region, while also hearing a few seasonally appropriate stories about Southport’s unique roots. With lots of fascinating tales in store, the Costumed Holiday History Tour is a fun holiday tradition that shouldn’t be missed.
