Our top Rental booking tips:

Finding the best value:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in Wilmington. To get the best value, consider changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Cape Fear area area travel guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Cape Fear area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing the best rental home:

  • Start by having your group agree to a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. The Palm House *Walk Downtown has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
