Big Buck's Ice Cream Has Been Serving up Smiles to OBX Visitors for 29 Years

Belinda Pleva grew up serving ice cream out of her parents’ shop. She loved being part of what she calls a happy business. In 1994 Belinda opened up her own ice cream and chocolate shop, Big Buck’s ice cream in the brand-new TimBuck II shopping center in Corolla.

Belinda says, “I love it when people come into the shop, and are handed something sweet and it makes them smile. That moment when you hand an ice cream cone over to a little kid and their eyes just light up. That’s what I love about the ice cream business.”

Big Buck’s homemade ice cream is the perfect blend of Italian gelateria flavors and the richness of American ice cream. It quickly became the popular place that it is today.


During the development of the ice cream flavors Belinda also took a trip to Brussels to learn more about making handmade chocolates. She brought the chocolate making experience right back with her and the result was the finest quality chocolate on the Outer Banks.

After her huge success in the TimBuck II store, Belinda was able to open up three more locations: Kitty Hawk, Manteo, and Duck. This summer, 2023, a fifth location will be opening in Corolla. “I love that our customers line up outside the door for us, they know we’re always consistent in our homemade ice creams and they’re coming back to a happy atmosphere every time.”
