Rental home booking tips and tricks:

Finding the best value:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Book your rental property in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Cape Fear area area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Cape Fear area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Finding the best rental home in Wilmington:

  • Start by selecting trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Dog-friendly cottage with front porch, washer\/dryer, enclosed yard, desk, & AC has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If not, email the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

Tips for a great stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
