The small coastal town of Southport is known for its beautiful landscape of coastal shrubs, trees, and centuries-old live oaks, and visitors can celebrate this heritage while learning a bit more about the local environment at the Southport Arbor Day celebration. This educational and enlightening event which is held at the Keziah Park in the heart of town is a prime opportunity to celebrate the holiday by learning a little bit more about what makes the coastal terrain so enticing, and so unique.
The event features a special presentation by Charley Winterbauer, who is the President of the local Cape Fear Audubon Society. After a little education on area trees and landscapes, visitors will be treated to an ice cream social where they can meet and greet with their neighbors, and enjoy the beautiful spring landscape. Held in the heart of town, and shaded by towering park trees and other living historic landmarks, the event is a fun way to celebrate the natural heritage of this centuries-old community from top to bottom. Appropriate for all ages and free to the public, Southport Arbor Day is a great opportunity to uncover the literal roots of this community, and to celebrate its beautiful lush and coastal terrain.
