Wilmington visitors who are cruising along Shipyard Blvd or 17thStreet, and are in need of a quick lunch, can swing by The Lunchbox, a fun and funky sandwich joint that features a wealth of easy-going grub to go.

The menu is surprisingly extensive, with a long list of salads, wraps, and sandwiches, (as well as big deli platters for special events), and an ever-changing array of daily specials. Longtime fans attest that the day’s soup selection should always be enjoyed first, with varieties that range from homemade chicken noodle or chili to cheesy broccoli and roasted red pepper. After a cup of soup, it’s a hard choice to decide between the dozens of sandwiches or wraps that are prepared with Boar’s Head meats and fresh unique breads like ciabatta. Newcomers should start with a classic, like the Tidewater club with turkey, ham, bacon, and cheddar on toasted wheat, or the Oak Island with roast beef, provolone and Thousand Island dressing. For something a little different, go for the turkey and brie sandwich, or the Outer Banks, which boasts grilled chicken tossed in buffalo sauce and combined with celery, tomato and cheddar on fresh greens salad. Always satisfying, and always a little different, The Lunchbox is a favorite lunchtime break for Wilmington’s working crowd.
