The fall season really explodes with the Purple Feet Festival in September when patrons actually have the opportunity to stomp the grapes. This festival has drawn a lot of attention to the winery and is one that folks really look forward to. "We have a Lucy lookalike contest," Maryann offers referring to the episode of the Lucille Ball Show when Lucy stomps the grapes. "It is a real hit." One year, experts from Las Vegas arrived to scout the competition. The winner was flown to Vegas for an audition and was offered a job. Also popular are the Oktoberfest in October and the Fiesta Italia in November.
The number of awards won by Silver Coast is approaching 200. The most prized award is the Double Gold won at the 2004 International Eastern Wine Competition. "That means that every judge recommended a gold for our '02 Touriga that day," Maryann explains.
The winery hosts a wine club with about 2,000 members. Eight hundred of those are locals who drop in weekly or monthly for a wine tasting, to walk through the ever-changing art gallery, or to meet with friends.
