Hurricane Fishing Fleet

Party Time leaving the dock.
The Hurricane Fleet includes two private charter boats. The 45-foot Cyclone can hold between 12 and 40 guests, whereas the 40-foot Party Time is for groups of 10 or less. Contestants who hire the charters for tournament fishing often win or place in the respective competitions thanks in part to the expertise of the Hurricane crew. For another unique experience, the shark fishing charter is a sure thing. On this five-hour trip, anglers fish for black tip, hammerhead, and tiger sharks. The Hurricane crew also assures that once you try the tuna fishing trip, you'll be back for more.

For a once-in-a-lifetime oceanography experience, try the 2-hour Dolphin Adventure Cruise aboard the Hurricane II. Hosted by an experienced crew and a marine biologist, this is a first-hand experience like no other. Sailing the calm waters of the Intercoastal Waterway, the crew collects marsh plants and animals using crab traps, bottom dredges, and plankton nets. Then crabs, sea urchins, whelks, sponges, and sand dollars are passed around for an incredible hands-on experience. It is common to see a wide variety of birds including white egrets, blue herons, terns, brown pelicans, southern bald eagles, and red-cockaded woodpeckers. Occasionally an alligator or a gopher tortoise might emerge from the salt marsh. The boat then cruises to the shrimp boats just off the coast, where the crew explains the shrimping industry. Dolphins and the occasional shark swim around the boats waiting for the free meal of fish that is cast back into the water from the shrimp nets.

The Hurricane management prides itself on environmental stewardship. Every crew member is familiar with the strict federal regulations regarding minimum sizes and maximum quantities of each fish species. Anglers are required to release those fish outside of the limits. For the past five years, the crew has also partnered with the National Marine Fisheries Division of NOAA. A marine biologist frequently visits the dock to weigh and measure the catch, surveying the quantity and quality of the fish in the Atlantic. The Hurricane captains also keep records of each trip. With careful management from all coastal fishermen, there will be plenty of fish for the next generation of Hurricane customers.
