Hurricane Fishing Fleet

Ocean-going adventures are on the menu in Calabash. For nearly ten years, the Hurricane fleet has been based at the Fleet's marina along the Calabash River waterfront, when it moved from Little River, South Carolina. The 25-year-old deep sea fishing and cruising company operates four boats, offering a wide variety of fishing charters. From Easter to the first of December each year, thousands of locals and tourists fish the decks of the Hurricane Fleet. Year after year, the regulars come back with their children and grandchildren.

All fishing trips include rod, reel, bait, tackle, and fishing instructions if necessary. Food and beverages are also available for a nominal fee on select trips. Two half day trips are offered: in the morning from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and in the afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.. The 90-foot long Hurricane II goes to the black fish banks of the Carolina coast, where you can catch sea bass, flounder, porgies, and possibly even sharks. The boat accommodates up to 105 people on each trip.

A daylong adventure on the 77-foot Westwind sails at 7:00 a.m. and travels the 50 miles to the gulf stream within three hours. The Westwind can accommodate up to 86 fishermen. Anglers can look forward to hooking snapper, grouper, large sea bass, and trigger fish. The lucky few may reel in a king mackerel, cobia, amberjack, or dolphin.

Unique overnight trips are offered to the serious angler only in the summer. Fishermen can expect an impressive view of the night sky, while catching sea bass and sharks from the decks of the Westwind. The 18-hour trip runs once each month and is limited to smaller groups of 40. Imagine the excitement of fishing by moonlight, and then watching a majestic sunrise.

Specialty trips are also for the more serious adventurers....
